On any sunny day - especially on weekends - the Chicago area's jogging and biking trails can turn into congested speedways as freewheeling bikers and inline skaters jostle for position with slower-moving joggers and walkers.

In Chicago, the 18-mile Lake Front Path jams with bikers and skaters, sometimes dangerously.

"Speed and a skinny path for too many people are the big problems out here," said Ryan Boudreau, 18, a Chicago bicyclist who collided head-on with a speeding bicyclist last month on the path. "There are people riding around out there like they've never ridden a bike."
