Pertains to Batavia
Cyclists in Batavia may soon have an easier and safer way to get around. Batavia has contracted Ed Barsotti, executive director of the League of Illinois Bicyclists, to prepare the city's first-ever bicycle plan. His job will be to work with an advisory committee to plan out a bike route and
recommend treatments for roadways along that route, including striped bike lanes and new road signs. Batavia's plan will resemble, and possibly link up with, the extensive bike routes planned for Geneva and North Aurora, which should be no surprise. Barsotti helped design plans
for both cities, with input from cycling enthusiasts like himself in
both municipalities.

But as a former longtime Batavia resident, Barsotti said he is looking
forward to designing Batavia's plan most of all. Barsotti moved to
Aurora a few years ago, after living most of his life in Batavia. "This
is a dream consulting gig," he said. "I'm excited about being able to
help my hometown improve its bicycling conditions." Barsotti's first
step is to hold a brainstorming session with Batavia cyclists, to
determine the best routes for the proposed path. He said he plans to
include the Batavia and Geneva park districts in that session and will
base the final plan on both the trail system and the city's roadways...
