5-year cost put at $10 million A network of hundreds of miles of bike trails linking the Chicago area could be largely completed within five years for $10 million, according to the head of a new state authority. Phil Elfstrom said the newly formed five-county Prairie Trail Authority will seek $2 million in state funds this year, and may also ask for some kind of regional non-property tax to fund the project. "I envision the day when you'll start out in Waukegan, stay over in Elgin, have breakfast in Joliet, dine in Chicago Heights, stop along the lakefront, and ride up to Waukegan the following day," said Elfstrom. ... |
