| The District has signed a letter of intent with the Illinois Department of Transportation regarding a new trail underpass at Illinois Route 53 along the East Branch of the DuPage River near Glen Oak Forest Preserve in Glen Ellyn. The project is a key component in a long-range plan to construct a regional trail system along the river. IDOT will replace a deteriorating bridge on Route 53 that crosses the river with a higher design, which will accommodate a 10-foot-high trail underpass on each side of the river. IDOT will construct the underpass at no expense to the District in return for permission to excavate approximately 1,000 cubic yards of compensatory floodplain storage from nearby District property. |
