The Forest Preserve received an Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation Grant for $350,000 to help preserve the Kropp-Schulenberg Prairie, a 10.28-acre parcel along the DuPage River. Preservation of the property conserves a high-quality, scientifically significant restored prairie, expands and buffers the Forest Preserve’s Riverview Farmstead, and extends the DuPage River Greenway, a multi-agency goal of protecting open space and providing a recreational trail along the river. The previous landowner purchased the site in the early 1960s and, along with another noted botanist, began prairie planting and revival of the woodland along the river. The owner had a strong desire to preserve the prairie for wildlife and environmental education opportunities. The Illinois Clean Energy Foundation invests in clean energy development and land preservation to improve environmental quality in Illinois. |
