Edgar keeps Park Forest-Joliet trail alive

Plans for a new 20-mile trail linking Park Forest and Joliet are moving ahead after Gov. Edgar's amendatory veto of anti-greenway legislation, according to a conservation group coordinating the deal.

Edgar last week announced changes in legislation that conservationists say will, if sustained, save the Old Plank Road Trail project, as well as an adjoining trail from Joliet south into the heart of Will County.

The original legislation was spurred by controversy over plans to create suburban greenways - public trails and corridor parks - by condemning privately owned land.
