Engineering began yesterday on a pedestrian bridge to be constructed over Illinois Route 53 near the Seven Bridges development in Woodridge north of Hobson Road, officials said. According to Zill Khan, village engineer, village officials met with representatives from the Illinois Department of Transportation and URS Corp. to begin phase one engineering on the project. “Engineering has already begun, and we expect phase one engineering to be completed by December of 2008,” said Khan. Khan said bids for the project could be let as early as June of 2009, with construction scheduled for late summer 2009. The village will receive $50,000 in state funding as well as about $1.6 million in federal funds to complete the $2.1 million project. The bridge will connect bike and walking paths on both sides of Route 53 at the mixed-use development near Mulligan Drive. |
