Pertains to Fox River Trail, Elgin | |
A land planning and landscape architectural firm with offices in Naperville and Chicago has been hired by the Elgin City Council to design a new Riverside Drive Plaza along the Fox River. The $180,000 contract with Hitchcock Design Group was approved Wednesday. The cost of the project, which will include bicycle and walking paths, water features and a pavilion, is expected to be about $8 million. Construction is expected to begin in summer of 2008, said David Lawry, Elgin's general services group director. "This was the last hole in the riverfront plans," Lawry said. The roughly 1-acre site is bounded by the Fox River, South Grove Avenue, Chicago Street and Prairie Street. |
