New Structure Latest Link in North Central DuPage Regional Trail Government officials representing the State of Illinois, the DuPage County Board, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, and various local agencies Saturday officially opened and dedicated the Meacham Grove Bridge over Roselle Road in Roselle. The newest link in the County’s North Central DuPage Regional Trail, the Meacham Grove Bridge will span Roselle Road, just north of Lake Street connecting both sides of the Meacham Grove Forest Preserve. "We are pleased with this new addition to our North Central DuPage Regional Trail," stated DuPage County Board Chairman Robert Schillerstrom. "This project was a cooperative effort and I would like to thank DuPage County Forest Preserve President Dewey Pierotti and all the Forest Preserve Commissioners and staff for their hard work. Without their partnership and support we would not have been able to complete this project on time and under budget. I would also like to thank our State Representatives, and in particular Representative Carole Pankau, for their help in securing approximately $500,000 of the funding needed for this project." The bridge, constructed by Belvidere Construction, is a single span 150-foot prefabricated truss bridge accessed by 2, 200-foot radius curves on the west side of Roselle Road and one 300-foot radius curve on the east side. In addition to the bridge, other improvements included in the entire project include: * Realignment of the existing trail and construction of a new ten-foot wide trail; * Regrading of the entire site allowing for stormwater storage and future wetland areas; * Construction of a five-foot wide walkway from Roselle Road to the trail and bridge; * Installation of swales and culverts to provide positive drainage for the entire site. "These improvements are a tremendous enhancement to our DuPage County Trail System," Commented DuPage County Board member Roger Jenisch. "The construction of this new bridge will not only further link our trail system, it will also allow trail users to safely cross a busy and potentially dangerous road." In celebration of May as National Bicycle Month, local bicyclists joined the ceremony including members of the Schaumburg Bicycle Club, Bikeable Roads and Trails supporters and the Chicago Area Mountain Bikers. Total cost for the bridge was $622,000, nearly $300,000 less than the original estimate of approximately $900,000. |
