More than $2.6M to fund new bike, pedestrian paths
Oct 30, 2010
Kane County Chronicle
Pertains to Overland Route, Geneva
Three new bike and pedestrian paths are headed to Kane County, including one in Geneva that includes an underpath.

The projects were announced Friday by Illinois Transportation Secretary Gary Hannig. More than $2.6 million in transportation enhancement funds will be used to construct the paths, which will be in Geneva, Elburn and Montgomery.

The path in Geneva will begin at the southwest corner of Keslinger and Randall roads and proceed south. The path travels under the existing Randall Road bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad. The path travels north and connects to the South Street dead end. A new underpass will connect existing trails on both sides of Randall Road and run along South Street and Keslinger Road. The project was awarded more than $1.8 million.

The path in Elburn will be on the west side of the new Anderson Road alignment, between Route 38 and Keslinger Road. The path will connect to an existing path along Keslinger Road and eventually connect to the Great Western Trail. The project was awarded more than $505,000.

The Montgomery path will run parallel to Orchard Road between Jericho Road and Route 30. The path will connect to a major regional trail system. The project was awarded more than $346,000.

The funding is part of the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program, a federally funded program that promotes alternative transportation. The latest round of awards includes 120 projects in Illinois, totaling nearly $90 million.
