A new recreational trail segment and two pedestrian bridges are set to be built over creeks in the Aurora West Forest Preserve, Kane County forest officials have announced. The nearly $250,000 in improvements are planned at the preserve, on Illinois Highway 56 between Sugar Grove and Aurora. The 1.5-mile limestone trail segment and bridges will be added to the Mid-County Trail corridor, a north-south bicycle trail planned for the center of the county that has been a work-in-progress for more than a decade. A contract for the trail work is expected to be approved Tuesday by the Kane County Forest Preserve Commission. The panel's Executive Committee recommended Friday that C&H Excavating Inc. of Earlville, Ill., be awarded a $249,686 contract to do the work. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has agreed to reimburse the county $134,500 for the recreational trail work. |
