Pertains to West Branch Regional Trail, Winfield, West Chicago, Carol Stream
The DuPage County Forest Preserve District approved the design and construction of a mile-long section of trail just outside Carol Stream that will run from St. Charles Road south to the Great Western Trail. The project, which forest preserve commissioners approved Tuesday, will cost $1.25 million. The district will initially pay for the purchase with proceeds from a $68 million loan approved by voters in a November referendum. About $787,000 will be recouped through a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The project is expected to take two years to design and up to four months to build, said Andrea Hoyt, a forest preserve planning director.
