The Forest Preserve District of Will County will host an informational open house this summer. The open house will provide an opportunity for the public to examine proposed conceptual developments, ask questions of District staff and submit comments on long-term plans for the South Rock Run Greenway. Preservation of the Rock Run has been a major focus of the Forest Preserve. To date the District, in partnership with the City of Joliet, has acquired more than 1,200 acres of land along the waterway, which flows slowly from Crest Hill through Joliet to the Des Plaines River. District holdings connect and link to the Lockport Township Park District, Channahon Park District, Joliet Park District and Joliet Junior College. Together, these public holdings form an almost contiguous greenway along the entire Rock Run. The southern portion of the greenway lies between Joliet and Channahon along Route 6. This southern section is comprised of the Rock Run Rookery Preserve and Lower Rock Run Preserve. Lower Rock Run, at 420 acres, lies along the Rock Run between Joliet Junior College and Route 6.
