A high-level plan for the Winfield Riverwalk was presented to the Village Board at the last board meeting. The plan outlines an overall future view for Winfield's Riverwalk, and how the plan integrates with the DuPage County forest preserve trails. The presentation was given by Jill Brosig, chair of the Riverwalk Committee. The goal is to create an arterial set of pathways that focus on the Winfield town Center. "We are trying to create the most 'walk-able' community in the Chicagoland Area," Ms. Brosig remarked. While the plan is extensive, the key is to “start with something small,” suggests Ms. Brosig. This is one of the lessons that was learned when the Riverwalk Committee meet with officials in Naperville. Mr. Brosig suggested that perhaps a centralized music venue might be the centerpiece or heart of the Winfield Riverwalk, and a good starting point. The Riverwalk Committee was formed in early 2007, when the village board approved a $10,000 grant to evaluate how the village might benefit from this Riverwalk. The next step proposed by Mr. Brosig and Trustee Glenn Vade Bon Cour is to hold a town meeting to gain ideas and support from the public as a whole. No date has been set for the meeting. |
