Hiking and biking enthusiasts will be able to enjoy an abundance of recreational opportunities with the completion of the proposed 25-mile Salt Creek Greenway Trail. The multi-agency project will extend south from Busse Woods Forest Preserve in Cook County through eastern DuPage County, passing through Salt Creek Marsh, Salt Creek Park, Salt Creek Greenway, Cricket Creek and York Woods forest preserves. At present, an approximately 8-mile segment is complete from Devon Avenue in Elk Grove Village south to the intersection of Forest Preserve Drive and Addison Road in Addison. The next portion of trail to be constructed involves the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, the villages of Addison, Oak Brook, and Villa Park, and the Addison and Elmhurst park districts. Construction costs for this trail segment are estimated at $5 million, with 75 percent covered by grants.
