Techny Trail to Be Extended
Feb 1, 2009
Village of Glenview Report
Pertains to Techny Trail, Glenview
Leaving the car at home and hopping on
a bike instead is one way we can all help the environment -- and reduce congestion on local roads. And
Glenview’s Techny Trail Biking Path -- which currently runs along the east side of the railroad tracks between
the Glen of North Glenview train station and Chestnut Avenue -- offers residents an easy way to cycle through
the Village. Soon they’ll be able to cycle a little further.

In 2008, the Village received a $440,000 Federal Congestion
Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant,
which will enable it to extend the trail further south -- right down to Glenview Road (next to the library).

That means you’ll be able to bike between both of Glenview’s train stations, and from downtown all the
way up to The Glen. Construction on this portion of the Techny Trail will begin late in 2009, with completion
scheduled for early in 2010.

Ultimately, this Glenview extension takes us one step closer to a regional transportation goal: to provide cycling connectivity between the five train stations between Morton Grove and downtown Northbrook.
