Pertains to Valley Line Trail, Chicago, Lincolnwood
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 22 foot wide multi-use trail

  • New pedestrian bridge at Rogers Avenue

  • New pedestrian bridge at Peterson Avenue

  • Orientation markers along the trail

  • Landscaped planters at Bryn Mawr Avenue

  • Improved trail access at: Sauganash Park, Devon Avenue, Thome Avenue and Bryn Mawr Avenue

Beginning in July, the Sauganash community will receive many improvements as the City begins construction on the Valley Line multi-use trail. The $2.3 million improvement project was designed by the City of Chicago Department of Transportation in close cooperation with community representatives and your alderman to increase the safety and recreational appeal of the area.

The one mile long, multi-use trail will be constructed on a former railroad embankment located just east of Kostner Avenue between Bryn Mawr Avenue and Devon Avenue. The plan calls for a 22 foot wide path, providing in each direction, a 6 ft. wide bicycle lane, a 3 ft. wide running and walking lane and a 2 ft. wide shoulder. The existing bridges at Rogers Avenue and Peterson Avenue will be completely demolished and reconstructed, while a new ramp will be installed at Thome Avenue and in Sauganash Park to access the trail. The project also includes the installation of orientation markers using the City's address system and landscaped planters at Bryn Mawr Avenue to replace the existing jersey barriers.

The project is scheduled for completion in late 2007.
