Pertains to Valley Line Trail, Lincolnwood, Chicago
Laurino's predictions for the 39th Ward

As part of her "wish list" for the coming year, Laurino would also like to see the Valley Line Trail, part of an overall "Rails to Trails" initiative, open in 2008.

"We're going to try to extend that trail all the way from Devon to Pratt," said Laurino. "In the city of Chicago we already have this grandiose plan of bike trails that are going to line up all over the city and link up with the suburbs, but it's a painfully slow process.... What you know is that these things don't happen in a vacuum. We have had people from the community and the chambers going to the city of Chicago budget hearings for years" to put the Bryn Mawr to Devon trail into place.

There is also an opportunity to extend it further south. If the railroad vacates other sections of the line, she said she hopes the city buys them before ComEd does. ComEd snapped up the abandoned portion that the soon-to-open Valley Line Trail is on. The city however has a 99-year lease on the property.
