A River Rescue in McHenry: Kishwaukee Greenway Envisioned

The Kishwaukee River has flowed quietly on its way through McHenry County for some 12,000 years, but it never had official friends until now.

But then, it may never have needed them so badly before.

Last year a group of citizen activists formed the Friends of the Kishwaukee to help create a protected corridor or greenway along the river, whose watershed drains about half of Illinois' most rapidly developing county.

The Kishwaukee's 75-mile main stem and numerous tributaries, which travel from the Woodstock area to ravines along the Rock River, include the sites of Motorola's new plant ...
