Nov 12, 2008
Peter Scales Peter.Scales@cityofchicago.org
City of Chicago Press Release
Pertains to North Branch Trail, Chicago
North Branch Trail, 3530 N. Rockwell Ave. to 3741 N. California Ave.

The project will use $2 million in Open Space Impact Fee funds for the Chicago Department of Transportation to link existing segments of the North Branch Trail along the Chicago River, part of the Chicago Trails Plan and the Chicago River Corridor Development Plan to create a continuous riverfront trail.

The new 1,500-foot segment will run from Clark Park under the Addison Street bridge, then cross the river on a bicycle-friendly pedestrian bridge into California Park. The impact fees will fund the design phase and the initial trail development costs. Once the design is completed, the City is eligible to apply for state grants to cover the remainder of the $5.8 million project.
